Does ProtonVPN Work With Netflix?

Yes. ProtonVPN does work with Netflix.

In fact, it works rather well with the online streaming platform. Be that as it may, I wouldn’t use it as my go-to. The reason why is because it does not give you a lot of connectivity options unless you opt to buy a premium subscription plan.

With all that said, continue reading this article to know everything you need regarding the use of Netflix alongside ProtonVPN.

It’s also worth mentioning that ProtonVPN’s servers are very capable. In addition to being fast, they are very good at getting around geo-restrictions. As a matter of fact, some of them can even bypass the Great Firewall of China, which is a difficult feat for any VPN provider.

What Netflix Libraries Can You Access With ProtonVPN?

No two Netflix libraries are identical. Some host less content than others because of copyright and other legal restrictions. As such, as a paying Netflix subscriber, you need to get your money’s worth by accessing these libraries:

The US library of Netflix is very popular for a variety of reasons. First of all, it’s home to a lot of content that’s not available anywhere else on Netflix. In addition to that, it is also the first place where the latest and greatest shows, movies, and documentaries are released.

Unbeknownst to many, Netflix USA doesn’t just show English-language content. On it, you shall also find loads of interesting Spanish, Japanese, Chinese, German, and French titles. Hence, it is certain that you’ll never run out of something to watch while browsing the said library.

ProtonVPN has a very large presence in the United States. In fact, the majority of the provider’s servers are located there. As such, you’ll never have a hard time finding a good server to use to get around Netflix’s geo-restrictions.

Netflix France is the best place to discover and watch European content. Although it plays host to lots of French titles, it’s also home to many German, Spanish, Italian, and Dutch shows, documentaries, and movies. Moreover, there isn’t any shortage of English content.

You can pair several ProtonVPN servers in France. My experience with all of them has been great. Only once did I ever have my connection drop to a significant degree. Aside from that, never was I unable to circumvent the local Netflix geoblocks.

The UK library of Netflix needs zero introductions. It is the first place where the new seasons of interesting series like Sex Education and Peaky Blinders premier. On top of that, the library is also home to exclusive movies and documentaries that aren’t shown anywhere else.

Sad to say, ProtonVPN only has a tiny presence in the United Kingdom. On the bright side, the servers it has have no trouble with overcoming Netflix’s local geo-restrictions. Aside from that, they’re also blazingly fast and are capable of eliminating bandwidth throttling.

Canada’s Netflix library is my personal go-to. It’s packed with interesting content that is not available anywhere else. While browsing the library, you’ll come across everything from blockbuster hits to obscure titles that only serious movie buffs know about.

And if you’re wondering, Netflix Canada doesn’t just play host to English content. On it, you may also find shows, movies, and documentaries in French, Spanish, Japanese, and Korean.

There are a handful of ProtonVPN servers in Canada for you to choose from. Via testing, I’ve discovered that these servers are decent performers. While they do sometimes experience periods of downtime wherein they can’t unblock Netflix, they’re good for the most part.

Netflix in Australia definitely doesn’t disappoint.

Like its Canadian counterpart, the library has a lot of interesting exclusive content. This content can be in English, Chinese, Indian, Japanese, Filipino, Korean, Spanish, or French. As such, it is certain that you will never find yourself with nothing to watch while browsing the said library.

ProtonVPN has a small presence in Australia. It only allows you to choose from a small number of servers. Nevertheless, these servers are great performers. Besides being fast, they never failed me when it came to getting around Netflix Australia’s geo-restrictions.

Netflix in Japan is very interesting. The country’s library is the best place to come across anime shows and movies. Furthermore, it is also the perfect place to look for Japanese blockbuster hits as well as dramas that aren’t shown anywhere else in the world.

Of course, in the library, there is not any shortage of English content to choose from. Plus, all of the Japanese content on it has subtitles available.

You may choose from more than a few ProtonVPN servers in Japan. From my experience, all these servers are Netflix capable. Besides that, they’re also fast, being able to make almost no impact on my base internet connection speeds.

Other Must-See Netflix Libraries

Here are some other Netflix libraries that are worth checking out using ProtonVPN:

  • New Zealand
  • The Philippines
  • India
  • Germany
  • The Netherlands
  • South Korea
  • Taiwan

Remember that no two ProtonVPN servers are built equally. As such, your viewing experience while accessing the Netflix libraries of these countries may vary. Therefore, it would be best to manage your expectations so as for you to avoid becoming disappointed.

How To Use ProtonVPN With Netflix

Don’t know how to utilize ProtonVPN alongside Netflix? Follow these simple steps:

1. Install ProtonVPN

The first thing you should do is install ProtonVPN on your device. If you are worried about the technicality of this procedure, don’t be. That’s because it’s 100% automatic on all modern operating systems. You’ll literally only need to hit the download button then wait.

ProtonVPN router installation is a bit trickier to do. However, it’s still something that can be done by anyone with basic computer know-how. All you’ll need to do is follow these instructions.

2. Pick A Server

Once you’ve got ProtonVPN on your device, go ahead and select a server. Remember to pick a location that’s in the country that’s host to the Netflix library that you wish to unblock. Also, it would be wise if you go with a server that’s nearby.

The reason for that is because the closer a VPN server is, the less likely it is to negatively affect your internet connection speeds. How come? Because distance has a direct impact on how badly a VPN server will impact your base internet connection speeds.

3. Open Netflix

After picking a server, you may finally open Netflix. To know if you’ve successfully bypassed the platform’s geo-restrictions, check out its homepage. You should see something entirely different from what you usually see when you’re at your country’s local library.

4. Start Watching

Now that you’ve completed all the steps mentioned above, it’s time to start watching. During your session, never disconnect from ProtonVPN. Doing this will lead to you instantly getting detected and then blocked by the digital streaming platform.

ProtonVPN Netflix Error, Blocked, Slow, or Not Working?

ProtonVPN’s servers sometimes get detected by Netflix and then blocked. When that happens, you get met with an error message like the one shown above. Don’t worry as there are several workarounds that you can make use of to continue watching content on a geo-restricted library.

First of all, try connecting to another ProtonVPN server in the same country. If that doesn’t work, give updating the provider a shot. Alternatively, you can research to see if any other country shows the content you watch and stream it from the country’s local Netflix library.

Does ProtonVPN Work With Netflix?

Yes. ProtonVPN works quite well with Netflix. However, it is not my number one choice for the platform for several reasons. The most notable of which is the fact that access to the VPN’s entire network is only possible if you avail of a rather expensive plus or visionary plan.

Another reason why ProtonVPN isn’t the best Netflix VPN solution is that it cannot reliably get around the Great Firewall of China. Thus, it’s not suitable for anyone that frequently travels to places where internet censorship is rampant.
