The two have many things in common. However, lots of stuff also set them apart. For that reason, we must thoroughly discuss all their offerings. Only when that’s done shall you know what’s best for you.

Privacy & Security

CyberGhost and VyprVPN both operate from Europe. The former is based in Romania while the latter in Switzerland. Neither fall under Five Eyes Alliance jurisdiction. As such, zero restrictive copyright and privacy laws hinder their affairs.

Encryption Comparison

Both services utilize AES 256-bit encryption along with SHA-256 hash authentication. VyprVPN hasn’t disclosed its handshake while CyberGhost VPN employs RSA-4096, which is very secure.

VPN Protocols

The two support OpenVPN (UDP & TCP)WireGuard, and IPSec (LT2P & IKEv2). What makes VyprVPN unique is that it has a proprietary protocol called Chameleon. Besides that, it allows subscribers to manually toggle PPTP.

Sad to say, CyberGhost’s support for OpenVPN is limited to WindowsAndroid, Smart TVs, and Linux. Meanwhile, it only supports IKEv2 on iOS, Windows, and macOS.

Leak Protection

VyprVPN and CyberGhost VPN claim to provide 100% leak protection. To know if their claims are true, I tested each service with IPLeak.net. For starters, this is how my device did without any VPN or other special tool activated:

(IP Leak Test – No VPN)

This is how CyberGhost and its Singapore server did:

(IP Leak Test – CyberGhost Singapore)

And, here’s how VyprVPN’s counterpart server performed:

(IP Leak Test – VyprVPN Singapore)

Fortunately, neither of the VPN providers failed my tests. Hence, they have proven they can be trusted when it comes to maintaining my anonymity. With both, you’ll not have to worry about having your private information leaked.

Server Security

At present, none of the two services have a RAM-based network. Therefore, both are capable of keeping your data. If anything, the only thing stopping them is their firm no-logging policies.

In Conclusion

VyprVPN, along with CyberGhost, both offer excellent security. Be that as it may, this category’s winner is VyprVPN. Why? Because it supports more protocols on more platforms. You may configure the service to meet your exact needs as a user.

Speed Test

Despite being established quite recently, VyprVPN has already garnered a reputation for being a fast VPN. Experts have even compared it with clients like Surfshark and NordVPN that are known for being speedy.

In comparison, CyberGhost isn’t famed for its speed. While the service does perform decently, it is far from being the fastest available. Nevertheless, it’s still competent enough for general browsing, gamingstreaming, and downloading.

To see how fast the two really are, I tested each out. Before seeing how each did, here’s my base internet connection speeds for reference:

Speed Test – No VPN

Here’s how CyberGhost’s Singapore server changed things:

Speed Test – CyberGhost Singapore

Finally, this is the outcome following my transfer VyprVPN’s corresponding server:

Speed Test – VyprVPN Singapore

The results were fascinating. VyprVPN and CyberGhost were almost identical to each other. Still, VyprVPN did slightly better. Thus, it’s once again the victor in this category of our match.

Torrenting & P2P

VyprVPN and CyberGhost do not have completely enabled P2P networks.

To compensate for this, the former service detects your downloading activity then automatically pairs you with a suitable server. Meanwhile, the latter provides a list of servers on its desktop applications optimized for the job.

With all that said, I had to know if both VPN providers could really safeguard me when torrenting. Due to that, I did some tests with IPLeak.net once more. Below is the result with no VPN activated:

Torrenting Leak Test – No VPN

This is the result after I used CyberGhost along with its HK server:

Torrenting Leak Test – CyberGhost Hong Kong

Last but not least, here’s how VyprVPN’s SG server performed:

Torrenting Leak Test – VyprVPN Singapore

The testing software was able to detect my IP address when I was using VyprVPN. Because of that, my winner for this round of our VyprVPN vs CyberGhost match is CyberGhost.

Streaming

As with torrenting, CyberGhost VPN’s apps provide a list of servers that specialize in bypassing geo-blocked content. This makes everything more convenient on your end. You’ll not have to play a guessing game anymore when selecting a server for the job.

On the other hand, almost all of VyprVPN’s servers are capable of giving you access to foreign streaming service libraries. In fact, many say the VPN is one of the best for media consumption because it unblocks NetflixHuluAmazon Prime, and other websites, usually without hitches.

Netflix

No other streaming service is as popular as Netflix. For that reason, I had to know if each of the two could work alongside it. The title I decided to watch was Spotlight.

Below are the results following my attempt to view it using CyberGhost’s US streaming server:

Netflix US – CyberGhost

And this is how VyprVPN’s server in New York did after I tried to watch the same movie:

Netflix US – VyprVPN

Both services did great. They were able to get around Netflix USA’s geoblocks easily. Still, only VyprVPN performed completely with no issues. Its competitor occasionally had problems with maintaining quality.

Gaming

I played Call of Duty Mobile using the two to see if they could meet my gaming needs.

VyprVPN and its server in Singapore gave me no trouble with getting into the game. Moreover, everything ran smoothly with zero lags and frame drops. The whole experience was buttery smooth and quite enjoyable.

In comparison, CyberGhost did just as well. It, too, allowed me to access the game without any difficulty. Also, there was no lagging throughout all my matches. However, it should be noted that I momentarily suffered from frame drops.

To put it simply, both VPNs are well-suited for gaming. But, since VyprVPN did not bring about any frame drops, it’s the winner in this category of our match.

Compatibility

Compatibility is a very important thing to consider when selecting a VPN. After all, nobody would want to end up with a service that doesn’t work on all their devices. That said, please check out this comparative table to see what platforms each client works on:

VyprVPN CyberGhost
Windows
macOS
Android
iOS
Tor
Selected Routers
Windows
macOS
Android
iOS
Linux
Chrome
Firefox
Tor
Selected Routers

The victor of this CyberGhost vs VyprVPN round is CyberGhost. It has browser extensions for Chrome and Firefox along with apps for Linux as well as Chromebook OS. As such, users of those platforms won’t be left out if they choose to go with the service.

Simultaneous Connections

VPN services must let you pair many devices simultaneously with one account. Otherwise, they will not provide a good amount of value for money. Additionally, fewer people will get to stay protected with every subscription that’s made.

CyberGhost takes the lead as it allows for a max of 7 same-time gadget pairings while VyprVPN lets you connect  5. In today’s industry, these numbers are actually the norm. Nonetheless, you should know that other VPN companies like Surfshark and IPVanish have better offerings.

Servers

A great thing about CyberGhost is that it has the largest network of any VPN. With more than 7000 servers, it’s beyond capable of keeping your identity secret. Furthermore, the client also provides a nearly limitless amount of options when it comes to connectivity.

Since it’s relatively new, VyprVPN just has a little over 700 servers. Because of that, it’s the loser in this category of our match.

China

Very few VPN providers can bypass the Great Firewall of China. Furthermore, even fewer can do so with consistency. This shouldn’t come as a surprise since the censorship system is the most advanced ever created.

Unfortunately, only VyprVPN can leap across the Great Firewall. Despite its massive network, no reports exist of CyberGhost being able to do so.

Interface & Usability

Both services have easy-to-use apps with wonderful interfaces on all platforms.

CyberGhost’s native Windows 10 app is special as it provides a list of servers that specialize in security, torrenting, and streaming. Hence, picking a location that’s optimized for the job you need to get done is incredibly easy.

interface-cyberghost-2

CyberGhost Interface

The apps of VyprVPN take on a different approach. Each of them has very simple interfaces that can be mastered by just about anyone. After opening them, you’ll be greeted by a home screen that displays everything you need.

It was difficult to determine a winner for this category. Nevertheless, I settled on VyprVPN since all its native apps are tailor-made for people who aren’t tech-savvy. Aside from that, they are also aesthetically pleasing and very light on memory.

Additional Features

CyberGhost boasts data compression on Android. Moreover, it has a secret photo vault for iOS. The first feature makes the service’s app on the platform run more smoothly, while the second serves as a space where one can keep all their photos and videos hidden.

In addition, the VPN has two paid add-on password manager that makes logging into websites a breeze. Also, it’s got something called Dedicated IP, which lets you establish your personal dedicated IP address.

VyprVPN boasts two exclusive features. One is a cloud storage solution called VyprVPN Cloud that’s made for VirtualBox, Amazon Web Services, and DigitalOcean users. Meanwhile, the other is VyprVPN DNS. It adds another layer of protection vs DNS leaks.

Since CyberGhost has more unique features, it’s the winner of this VyprVPN vs CyberGhost round. That said, VyprVPN does have some excellent offerings. Sadly, only a handful of people will find them useful.

Customer Support

VyprVPN and CyberGhost VPN both take customer support seriously. To see what both VPN have in this regard, please refer to the table below:

VyprVPN CyberGhost
Live Chat Yes Yes
Email Support Yes Yes
Phone Support No No
Ticket Support Yes Yes
Video Tutorials No No
Online Knowledge Base Yes Yes
Average Response Time 4 Hours 14 Hours

As seen above, CyberGhost falls short versus its competitor. The reason why is because it has a longer average response time. Due to that, you’ll not be able to get an answer to your questions immediately.

Prices

For many, pricing is the most important thing to consider when getting a VPN. Below is a table that shows the different pricing schemes of each service:

VyprVPN CyberGhost
Subscription Lengths 1 Month ($12.95/Month) $12.99/Month
1 Year ($3.75/Month) 1 Year: $3.99/Month
2 Years ($2.50/Month) 2 Years: $3.49/Month
Highest Price Per Month $12.95 $12.99
Lowest Price Per Month $2.50 $2.25 (3 Years)
One Year Price $45 (18 Months) $47.88
Money-Back Guarantee 30 Days 14 Days (1-Month Plan)
45 Days (6 & 18-Month Plan)
Special Offer 80% discount for an 2-year subscription
71% discount for a 1-year subscription
3 months free after buying a 3-year subscription for $87.75

The prices of VyprVPN are more competitive. However, CyberGhost offers a free trial and has a better money-back guarantee period. Still, it’s the loser of this CyberGhost vs VyprVPN round because it doesn’t offer as much value for money.

Verdict

Is VyprVPN better than CyberGhost?

Yes. VyprVPN has almost everything one would want from a VPN. It has better security, is faster, bypasses the Great Firewall, has superior apps, and maintains excellent customer support. Besides that, it’s affordable, making it suitable for those who’ve got the tightest of budgets.

Don’t get me wrong, though. CyberGhost is an excellent VPN service. Sadly, it doesn’t match its competitor despite it having more server locations and greater compatibility.
