NordVPN and VyprVPN are two high-ranking services considered by many to be the best. Each boasts impressive specifications that make them worthy of praise. Be that as it may, it’s universally agreed upon that NordVPN is better.

While the two services look very similar on paper, several key things set them apart. Hence, it’s important to take a closer look to know what’s best for you.

For a better read, I’ll break things down by category. The first thing I shall discuss is privacy and security because they’re the most important things a VPN must provide.

Overall Winner: NordVPN

Privacy & Security

NordVPN is based in Panama, while VyprVPN is headquartered in Switzerland. Therefore, both don’t fall under the jurisdiction of the Five, Nine, or Fourteen Eyes Alliance. Due to that, no restrictive copyright or privacy laws hinder their operations.

One thing to note is that NordVPN once got hacked. During the incident, a rented server in Finland got compromised. Thankfully, no private user information got stolen.

Encryption Comparison

The two VPNs utilize AES 256-bit encryption along with SHA-256 hash authentication. While the handshake of VyprVPN remains undisclosed, it’s known that NordVPN makes use of RSA-4096.

VPN Protocols

Both services maintain support for WireGuardOpenVPN (UDP & TCP), and IPSec (LT2P & IKEv2).

In this regard, VyprVPN is a step ahead since it supports PPTP. Moreover, the service also has its own Chameleon Protocol that's proprietary. It’s a modified version of OpenVPN that’s designed to be more secure.

Leak Protection

Comprehensive leak protection is something that VyprVPN and NordVPN claim to provide. To determine whether each service remains true to their word, I conducted a few tests using IPLeak.net. Here are my results without any VPN activated:

(IP Leak Test – No VPN)

Now, this is the outcome after I paired with NordVPN’s Singapore server:

(IP Leak Test – NordVPN Singapore)

And here are the results following my move to VyprVPN’s counterpart server:

(IP Leak Test – VyprVPN Singapore)

Neither service failed to meet my expectations. Each hid my IP address without any issues. In doing so, they successfully proved that I could trust them to maintain my anonymity.

Server Security

At present, neither NordVPN nor VyprVPN has a RAM-based network. Because of that, nothing is stopping them from keeping your logs.

What’s great is that NordVPN has recently announced that it’ll upgrade its entire network to one that’s RAM-based. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for VyprVPN, which hasn’t made such plans yet.

In Conclusion

My winner in this round of our VyprVPN vs NordVPN match is NordVPN. The reason why is because it’ll soon transition to using RAM-disk servers. Once that happens, it will offer an incredibly higher degree of protection when compared to most of its competitors.

Winner: NordVPN

Speed Test

VyprVPN states that it’s the fastest VPN available. It doesn’t have a bandwidth cap, meaning the possibilities are limitless when it comes to connection speeds.

On the other hand, NordVPN doesn’t make any claims regarding its speed capabilities. With that said, lots of enthusiasts claim that it is the best VPN service when it comes to speed. Some have even compared it to the likes of Surfshark and ExpressVPN.

I conducted some tests to know which of the two is faster. Before showing you the results, here is how my base connection fared:

(Speed Test – No VPN)

This is how NordVPN’s server in Singapore changed it:

(Speed Test – NordVPN Singapore)

Lastly, here’s how VyrpVPN’s server in the same location did:

(Speed Test – VyprVPN Singapore)

As you can see, both services are quite fast. Nevertheless, the results clearly show NordVPN to be superior. Because of that, it’s the winner in this round of our NordVPN vs VyprVPN battle.

Winner: NordVPN

Torrenting & P2P

VyprVPN and NordVPN both don’t have fully enabled P2P networks. To mitigate this problem, the two detect torrenting activity then automatically pair you with an optimized server. If anything, this makes getting the job done so much more convenient.

I wanted to see if each service could protect me whenever I partake in a torrenting session. Due to that, I ran tests using IPLeak once more. To start, here are my results without any VPN running:

(Torrenting Leak Test – No VPN)

This is how NordVPN’s server in Singapore did:

(Torrenting Leak Test – NordVPN Singapore)

And here’s the results after I moved to VyprVPN’s corresponding server:

(Torrenting Leak Test – VyprVPN Singapore)

Sad to say, only NordVPN was able to hide my legitimate IP address. The testing software was able to detect VyprVPN. For that reason, I’d have to again declare NordVPN as the winner of this round in our match.

Winner: NordVPN

Streaming

Streaming is very important for many VPN users. As a matter of fact, most people use VPNs just to access foreign streaming service libraries.

The developers of NordVPN have tailored it for media consumption. Thanks to that, you won’t have trouble watching HuluNetflixHBO+BBC iPlayerAmazon Prime Video, and other services without restrictions. In comparison, VyprVPN does almost as well. It grants you access to almost every popular streaming platform with ease.

Netflix

Netflix is the world’s most popular streaming platform. Because of that, I had to know how each service would do versus its geoblocks. The first VPN that I tested out was NordVPN using its United States server. My title of choice was Spotlight:

(Netflix US – NordVPN)

Following that, I transferred to VyprVPN’s US server then re-watched the same movie:

(Netflix US – VyprVPN)

My viewing experience with the two VPNs was almost identical. However, I must note that drops in quality occurred sporadically while I was using VyprVPN. Therefore, my winner in this round of our NordVPN vs VyprVPN match is NordVPN once again.

Gaming

I played Call of Duty Mobile to know if NordVPN and VyprVPN could meet my needs. NordVPN and its server in Singapore did very well. Lagging and frame drops were nonexistent. My entire gaming session with the service was buttery smooth. When playing, I honestly forgot that I was using a VPN.

Moving over to VyprVPN’s server in the same location didn’t bring about changes. All of my matches went about without any hitches.

To sum things up, I think both VPNs are excellent options for gaming. With each, you won’t be disappointed in any way. For that reason, I can’t declare a decisive winner for this round of our VyprVPN vs NordVPN match.

Winner: Tie

Compatibility

The best VPN providers must have all-encompassing compatibility. Otherwise, they’d be useless since only a handful of people will get to use them.

Fortunately, the developers of both services understand this point. As a result, they’ve created native applications for almost every mainstream platform. In addition, router support has also been implemented. Sadly, only one of the two has got dedicated browser extensions.

Check out the table below to see what each VPN is compatible with:

VyprVPN NordVPN
Windows
macOS
Android
iOS
Tor
Selected Routers
Windows
macOS
Android
iOS
Linux
Chromebook
Chrome
Firefox
Tor
Selected routers

The winner of this round is clearly NordVPN. It has browser extensions for Chrome and Firefox along with a native app for Chromebook OS. VyprVPN still has a lot of catching up to do because it lacks extensions as well as a Chromebook app.

Winner: NordVPN

Simultaneous Connections

Wide compatibility is worthless if a VPN doesn’t allow for many simultaneous connections. Apart from that, a service that lets you connect more devices under one account provides more value for money. This shouldn’t be surprising since you’ll get to protect more people with less cash.

In this category, the winner is NordVPN, as it allows for a maximum of 6 simultaneous device pairings. VyprVPN comes quite close, though, because it lets users connect up to five gadgets with a single account.

Winner: NordVPN

Servers

A VPN with more servers is a better one. How come? It is more capable of maintaining the anonymity of its users. Moreover, it also provides them with more options when it comes to connectivity.

NordVPN has one of the most extensive networks of any VPN. It has more than 5000 servers across the globe. Meanwhile, VyprVPN has a tiny network because the service only operates 700+ servers around the world.

China

The draconian internet censorship measures of China are a huge challenge for any VPN. Only a handful of services can bypass the Great Firewall. What’s worse is that even fewer do so with uniformity. Hence, it’s safe to say that any VPN that reliably works in China is a good one.

Reports almost 100% consistently state that VyprVPN and NordVPN function in China with ease and regularity. Seldom do both services experience downtime in the country. As such, they’re vital tools for anyone who goes there frequently.

Winner: Tie

Interface & Usability

The apps of NordVPN and VyprVPN are remarkably different from each other. However, both are user-friendly, highly configurable, and light on memory.

My experience with all of NordVPN’s native apps has been great. I love the fact that I can pick a server using either a list or a world map. Finding a recently used or P2P enabled server is also an utter breeze. The same can also be said when it comes to accessing the settings menu.

nordvpn server selection

(NordVPN Interface)

VyprVPN likes to take a much different approach. All of its applications follow a theme that emphasizes simplicity and minimalism. On the home screen, you’ll get to access everything important. This includes the server list, settings, and quick-connect button.

(VyprVPN Interface)

Since its apps are easier to utilize, the winner of this round in our VyprVPN vs NordVPN battle is VyprVPN. Be that as it may, you should note that NordVPN has a wonderful app that I’m certain anyone would enjoy using.

Winner: VyprVPN

Additional Features

VyprVPN and NordVPN have exclusive features that are very useful. Of course, this should not come as a surprise since most VPNs nowadays boast additional features, making them stand out versus their competitors.

In the industry, this is necessary since the last thing a service would want is to seem boring and antiquated.

One of the best things NordVPN has is something called Double VPN. With it, you can basically route your traffic through two servers to increase your security. You’ll find it especially useful when you’re trying to avoid malicious third-parties or get around internet censorship.

Another thing NordVPN has is Onion Over VPN. To put it simply, the feature gives the service a high degree of optimization for the Tor Browser.

In comparison, VyprVPN has VyprVPN DNS and VyprVPN Cloud. The former adds another layer of protection from DNS leaks. Meanwhile, the latter is a VPN server deployment solution that makes accessing VirtualBox, Amazon Web Services, and DigitalOcean much safer.

While the additional features of both VPNs are excellent, the victor in this round of our NordVPN vs VyprVPN battle is NordVPN yet again. This is because Double VPN and Onion Over VPN are two things average users may utilize daily.

Winner: NordVPN

Customer Support

Customer support is the backbone of any VPN. Without it, troubleshooting would be a nightmare for most people. After all, not everyone is tech-savvy or has the time and resources to research a solution to their problem. Due to that, you can say that a client with bad customer service is one that isn’t worth subscribing to.

My experience with NordVPN’s chat support has been awesome. I connected the service a few times during the middle of the night and got a quick reply. All of the representatives that gave me a response were knowledgeable and very cordial. Thanks to that, troubleshooting was hassle-free and more fun than anything else.

VyprVPN’s live chat representatives did almost as well as NordVPNs. Each individual that I had an interaction with was obviously well-trained. All my questions were answered in a very detailed manner. However, I do wish response times were a tad bit faster.

For a better understanding of what each VPN offers in regards to customer support, please refer to the table below:

VyprVPN NordVPN
Live Chat Yes Yes
Email Support Yes Yes
Phone Support No No
Ticket Support Yes Yes
Video Tutorials No Yes
Online Knowledge Base Yes Yes
Average Response Time 4 Hours 3 Hours

As you’ve probably guessed, the winner in this round of our NordVPN vs VyprVPN battle is NordVPN. It has faster response times, a wider online knowledge base, and lots of video tutorials that make DIY troubleshooting a breeze.

Winner: NordVPN

Prices

Budget is always an important thing to consider when choosing between two VPNs. With that said, you should know that both NordVPN and VyprVPN are priced very competitively.

Look at the table below to see how much each service charges:

VyprVPN NordVPN
Subscription Lengths 1 Month ($12.95/Month) 1 Month ($11.95/Month)
1 Year ($3.75/Month) 1 Year ($4.92/Month)
2 Years ($2.50/Month) 2 Years ($3.71/Month)
Highest Price Per Month $12.95 $11.95
Lowest Price Per Month $2.50 $3.71
One Year Price $45 (18 Months) $59.00
Money-Back Guarantee 30 Days 30 Days
Special Offer 80% discount for a 2-year subscription
71% discount for a 1-year subscription
68% off for a 2-year plan;
58% off for a 1-year plan

Although VyprVPN’s base price is higher than NordVPN’s, it charges much less for its other plans. Because of that, it’s a viable option for individuals who’ve got a limited budget. By going for the service, it is guaranteed that you’ll be getting a wonderful deal.

Both of them have the standard 30-day money-back guarantee.

Since it’s a lot more affordable from the get-go, my winner for this final round of our VyprVPN vs NordVPN match is VyprVPN. Needless to say, NordVPN is still very reasonably priced. That is especially true when you compare it to its other competitors in the industry.

Winner: VyprVPN

Verdict

Is VyprVPN better than NordVPN?

No. Even if VyprVPN is a great service, it falls short in almost every regard versus NordVPN. Despite that, I’d still recommend it to those who are looking for a superb VPN but don’t wish to burn lots of cash. That’s because VyprVPN is an incredible client for its price.

NordVPN simply checks all the boxes. By selecting it, you’ll be getting outstanding security, fast connection speeds, and more simultaneous connections, among other things. Therefore, it’s strongly recommended that you purchase the service if you’ve got the means to.
