KeepSolidVPN Unlimited Review

The VPN industry is a very competitive one. Every year, new services emerge and gain large followings. However, only a select few manage to endure and thrive. Among these is VPN Unlimited, which is a favorite of many online security experts.

So what is VPN Unlimited?

It is a VPN provider that specializes in providing the general public with the best digital security available. Moreover, it also makes the internet a better place by unblocking the geo-restrictions put in place by corporations, governments, militaries, and many other third parties.

Here’s what we think are the disadvantages and selling points of VPN Unlimited:

  • Blazingly fast

  • Unblocks most streaming platforms
  • Has a lifetime plan
  • Wide compatibility
  • Unrefined applications
  • Small server network
  • Doesn’t work with Tor
  • Allows for few simultaneous connections
  • Based in the United States

I’ll start by discussing the privacy and security capabilities of VPN Unlimited. How come? The two are the most essential things a VPN service must provide.

Where is VPN Unlimited Based & Who Owns It?

VPN Unlimited is owned and operated by Keepsolid, a company that primarily creates digital security and productivity tools.

Fascinatingly, both VPN Unlimited and Keepsolid operate from the United States – a country that falls under the Five Eyes Alliance jurisdiction. There, lots of copyright and privacy laws exist which make running a VPN very difficult.

Encryption & Protocols Used

As you might’ve expected, VPN Unlimited uses AES-256 military-grade encryption. Pairing that is an SHA-256 hash authentication along with an RSA 4096-bit key exchange.

Every major protocol available is supported by VPN Unlimited. However, you should know that the service only lets you toggle these protocols on a limited array of devices. For example, OpenVPN is available exclusively on Windows, Linux, and Android.

Like most digital enterprises, Keepsolid has its own protocol. Known as Keepsolid Wise, it’s only available on VPN Unlimited. Since it’s quite new, there’s no general consensus as to whether it is safe to use. As such, we don’t suggest that you employ it.

VPN Unlimited Leak Test

VPN Unlimited states with confidence that it’s 100% leak-proof. To know if the VPN’s claims are true, I tested it out using IPLeak.net. Of course, before anything, I checked if the software could detect my legitimate Philippine IP address.

IP Leak Test – No VPN

After that, my next move was to connect to VPN Unlimited’s server in Singapore:

IP Leak Test – Singapore

Finally, I connected to the client’s server in San Francisco:

IP Leak Test – San Francisco

Unsurprisingly, my IP address remained hidden while I was paired to both of VPN Unlimited’s servers. As a result, it’s safe to say that the VPN provider is truly capable of safeguarding its users from dangerous leaks that troublemakers can take advantage of.

Does VPN Unlimited Keep Logs?

VPN Unlimited, like many other services, maintains a strict no-logging policy. Therefore, you can expect it to not keep any of your logs. With that being said, the VPN doesn’t have a RAM-based network, meaning its servers can still keep private user information.

You shouldn’t be worried about this though. After all, only a handful of VPNs have networks that are completely RAM-based. Furthermore, no records of VPN Unlimited ever tracking, collecting, then exploiting personal data for its own benefit exist.

Does VPN Unlimited Have A Kill Switch?

Yes. VPN Unlimited has a kill switch on its Windows, Android, iOS, macOS apps. To activate it, just head over to the settings menu of the service’s applications for all the operating systems mentioned above. There, you shall find the option to toggle the feature and configure it.

For those unaware, a kill switch is a security feature that automatically cuts off your device’s net connection if the VPN being utilized gets compromised in any manner. It’s particularly useful for those who’ve got bad ISPs or are trying to remain under the radar at all costs.

Does VPN Unlimited Have an Ad and Malware Blocker?

Yes and no. In the traditional sense, there’s no ad and malware blocking software that comes included with VPN Unlimited. However, the service has something called KeepSolid DNS Firewall, which keeps intrusive ads and malicious programs away.

In addition, a proprietary technology called KeepSolid Wise also helps keep your device safe from unwanted ads and viruses. How does it work? By camouflaging your internet traffic to make it look like normal HTTPS so third-parties won’t be able to detect your presence.

Is VPN Unlimited Safe?

Yes. VPN Unlimited is without a doubt one of the safest VPN solutions out there. Although its protocol support is limited, the service makes up for this by letting you pick everything from WireGuard to PPTP, which is old yet still very reliable.

Moreover, it’s important to note that VPN Unlimited has a flawless track record. It has not once been hacked or compromised in any manner. Besides that, the service, despite being based in the United States, has never given up private user info to the local authorities.

Last but not least, the service is leak-proof and has all the necessary bells and whistles such as a kill switch along with a malware blocker. Hence, when using it, it’s guaranteed that you’ll not become a victim of malware or have your privacy accidentally intruded upon.

Speed Test

There’s no such thing as a VPN that doesn’t affect internet speeds. All of the world’s services affect the connection of their users in one way or another. It’s simply the degree at which they do this that varies wildly.

Fortunately, reports are almost universal in stating that VPN Unlimited has a minor impact on connection speeds. In fact, the service has even been known to give its subscribers faster internet by getting them off bandwidth throttling.

I wanted to see how VPN Unlimited’s various servers changed my internet speed. Due to that, I ran a couple of speed tests. Before we review the results, here’s a screenshot of my base connection for reference:

Speed Test – No VPN

And here’s how the client did when I was connected to its Singapore VPN server:

Speed Test – Singapore

Now, this is how things changed after I transferred to the San Francisco server:

Speed Test – San Francisco

I was quite surprised by the results of my speed tests. After connecting to the Singapore server, my download speeds went up while the ping and upload speeds only took a minor insignificant hit that really didn’t change anything.

Meanwhile, after moving to the server in San Francisco, my downloading was the only thing that changed to a large degree. Still, my internet was beyond usable and I could go about browsing seamlessly.

How Fast is VPN Unlimited?

VPN Unlimited is a really fast service that’s on par with ExpressVPN and Surfshark. With it, you are sure to have an excellent browsing experience that’s free of lag. If you’re an average user that doesn’t need the fastest connection out there, you’ll certainly be satisfied.

Torrenting & P2P

Sad to say, this VPN service doesn’t have a fully enabled P2P network. Nevertheless, VPN Unlimited maintains a few servers that are optimized for torrenting. Also, the VPN lists these servers down on its many native apps to make selecting them beyond easy.

It doesn’t matter what’s your preferred torrent client. The reason why is because Keepsolid has made their service compatible with everything from Vuze to uTorrent.

To determine if it was really safe to torrent using VPN Unlimited, I conducted some tests using none other than IPLeak.net. Again, I checked if the software could find my real IP address before running my tests. Here’s the result:

Torrenting Leak Test – No VPN

Knowing that IPLeak.net worked, I proceeded to test VPN Unlimited’s optimized P2P server in San Francisco for any leaks:

Torrenting Leak Test – San Francisco

My next course of action was to see if the service’s torrenting server in Paris did its job:

Torrenting Leak Test – Paris

I’m glad to say that both of VPN Unlimited’s optimized servers for torrenting didn’t leak. Because of that, I can wholeheartedly say that the service will completely maintain your anonymity regardless of what you’re doing on the internet.

Is VPN Unlimited Good for Torrenting?

Yes. VPN Unlimited is a prime choice for anyone who frequently downloads torrents. Despite it not having many P2P servers, the VPN’s being leak-proof and blazingly fast make sure it won’t leave you in a vulnerable state or make you suffer from long downloading time.

A large number of people use VPN Unlimited just to gain access to foreign streaming service libraries. Many reports say that it can work around the geoblocks Hulu, BBC iPlayerDisney+, and many other well-known platforms. This is great since few competitors can do the same.

Does VPN Unlimited Work with Netflix?

Netflix is by far the world’s number one streaming service. Due to that, it was only natural for me to see if VPN Unlimited functioned alongside it. To do this, I attempted to watch Spotlight and Deadpool on its US and UK servers respectively.

Below is a screenshot of how the VPN’s US server managed:

VPN Unlimited on Netflix US

And now, here’s how it’s UK server performed:

VPN Unlimited on Netflix UK

Sad to say, the VPN was only able to provide me with access to Netflix’s US library. Be that as it may, it’s still capable of working with the streaming platform. However, you shouldn’t expect much to avoid getting disappointed.

Does VPN Unlimited Work with Amazon Prime?

Amazon Prime is my preferred backup to Netflix so it was very important for me to see if VPN Unlimited could bypass its geoblocks. This time, my preferred title was The Avengers since it isn’t available in my country for free.

This is how VPN Unlimited’s server in San Francisco did:

Does VPN Unlimited Work on Firestick?

Amazon Firestick is a very popular streaming device. Many VPN services have native apps for it and VPN Unlimited is one of them. Therefore, I gave the service a shot. To test it on the device, I connected to a US server then watched a YouTube video that’s only available in the country.

VPN Unlimited on Firestick

By this point, I was no longer surprised to see that VPN Unlimited did work quite well together with Amazon Fire TV Stick. It didn’t cause any loading or buffering issues and allowed me to stream the video in a whopping 4k resolution.

Is VPN Unlimited Good For Streaming?

Yes. Even if VPN Unlimited can’t unblock every streaming service library out there, it’s still a decent choice for movie buffs or anyone who streams content regularly.

With that said, many other better choices are available. Thus, if you’re planning to use the VPN solely for streaming, you should opt for something else.

VPN Unlimited states that it’s a viable solution for gamers. It can be used to keep you safe when playing on mobile, desktop, and even gaming consoles.

You should note that it does not have native apps for last and current generation consoles. To use the service together with these platforms, it’s necessary to do so via a router. Don’t worry though as Keepsolid had made sure the setup process isn’t difficult at all.

As it turns out, the reviews about VPN Unlimited’s gaming performance are true.

It’s a capable service that doesn’t cause issues with lagging. Moreover, it doesn’t cause frames to drop below 60 FPS even during the most hectic parts of gaming sessions. I was able to dominate when playing Call of Duty Mobile while using it and its server in Singapore.

Any good VPN service has to be compatible with a wide range of devices. It should have apps for major operating systems and extensions for all common web browsers. Furthermore, it’s also best that it can be installed on many routers, smart TVs, and streaming devices.

Keepsolid understands what’s stated above. As a result, they’ve made their VPN compatible with as many gadgets as possible. In addition, they also developed a wide range of browser extensions that you may take advantage of.

Operating Systems

VPN Unlimited has native applications for Windows 10LinuxAndroidiOS, and macOS. Sad to say, a Chromebook OS app has yet to be developed. On the bright side, the VPN can still be used with the operating system via the router, so its users won’t be left out.

Browser extensions exist for Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Firefox, and Opera. What’s unfortunate is that it’s not possible to use VPN Unlimited alongside Tor. Hence, regular users of that browser should go with another service to meet their needs.

It’s possible to install VPN Unlimited on these routers:

  • Asus RT-N16 (Tomato firmware)
  • Asus RT-N66U (Tomato 1.28 by Shibby)
  • Asus (Asuswrt-Merlin)
  • DD-WRT
  • GLiNet Router
  • OpenWrt
  • Xiaomi Mi Router 3
  • pfSense
  • TP-Link
  • Padavan
  • MikroTik

As mentioned earlier, the installation process of the service on routers isn’t difficult. In fact, even those who don’t know their way around technology can get it done. However, if you ever need assistance, simply contact support, and they’ll give you step by step instructions.

Simultaneous Connections

Like most competing services, VPN Unlimited allows for a maximum of 5 simultaneous device connections per subscription.

This is rather sad, especially when you consider the fact that a handful of VPNs like Surfshark and IPVanish already let you connect an unlimited amount of gadgets concurrently.

Despite being established quite a long time ago, VPN Unlimited doesn’t have a large network. It operates a mere 500+ servers across the world. Because of that, it’s not the best option for those who value connectivity and wish to remain hidden.

Does VPN Unlimited Work in China?

Yes. Although it has a tiny network, many testimonies and reviews state that VPN Unlimited is capable of bypassing the Great Firewall of China. The service does so with amazing reliability, making it an indispensable tool in the country.

Interface & Usability

Lots of people quit their VPNs because they can’t get the hang of the applications. Why? Not all users are tech-savvy, and most VPN applications aren’t built with user-friendliness in mind.

Still, things are changing for the better as more and more developers are starting to create better native apps suited to all types of individuals.

At first glance, VPN Unlimited’s apps look rather straightforward. But, using them is another story as they’re unresponsive and clunky. For some users, they can be rather frustrating as mastering them takes time. With that said, once you get used to them, they aren’t that bad.

Does VPN Unlimited Have Split Tunneling?

Yes. VPN Unlimited does have split tunneling. Unfortunately, the feature is absent on all other platforms apart from Android. Hence, those who use it on devices apart from their mobiles or tablets are better off going with another VPN solution.

Additional Features

VPN Unlimited has a decent set of additional features that can be useful to anyone.

For starters, the service allows you to establish a VPN server and static IP address without charge. If anything, this is great for those who value their privacy above anything else. Also, other competing services make you pay to do both things.

Also, the service allows you to make use of Two-Factor Authentication when logging into its apps. There’ll be no need to employ third-party software for the job. And if you are wondering, yes, the feature is also free to use.

Customer Support

VPNs need to have good customer service to thrive. Keepsolid is aware of this and has made sure to train their service’s representatives well. My experience with VPN Unlimited’s email as well as chat support has been nothing but stellar.

Each of the representatives that attended to me was obviously well-trained. They were very knowledgeable and cordial. On top of that, all of them were also incredibly patient.

Here’s everything VPN Unlimited offers when it comes to customer service:

Live ChatYes
Email SupportYes
Phone SupportNo
Ticket SupportYes
Video Tutorials No
Online Knowledge BaseYes
Average Response Time1 Hour

As seen above, VPN Unlimited doesn’t have phone support. Moreover, it lacks video tutorials that make DIY troubleshooting easy. Nevertheless, the service makes up for this by having an extensive online knowledge base.

One of the best things about VPN Unlimited is its average response times. After contacting them using any avenue, you can expect to get a response in less than an hour.

Keepsolid is not a greedy company as it has priced its VPN very competitively. For a minimal amount of cash, you’ll get to purchase a subscription. Additionally, there’s a lifetime plan available that’s perfect for anyone who doesn’t want to keep making payments.

Here are the different pricing options of VPN Unlimited:

Subscription Lengths1 Month ($9.99/Month)
 1 Year ($4.99/Month)
 Lifetime ($199.99)
Highest Price Per Month$9.99
Lowest Price Per Month$4.99
One Year Price$59.99
Money-Back Guarantee30 Days
Special OfferNo special offers available

Although the 1-year plan is reasonably priced, it’s best to avail of the lifetime subscription. How come? It offers the best value for money. Moreover, after getting it, you’ll no longer have to worry about not being safeguarded whenever you go online.

Payment Options

You can buy a VPN Unlimited subscription using the following methods:

  1. Credit Card (Visa, MasterCard)
  2. Paypal
  3. Amazon Pay
  4. Gift Cards
  5. Google Play
  6. iTunes
  7. Microsoft Store
  8. Bitcoin

The fact that you can pay using Bitcoin is excellent. After all, the method keeps you anonymous and is completely hassle-free. If anything, having the option for the payment method is proof that Keepsolid really does care about the privacy of its customers.

Refund Policy & Money-Back Guarantee

Keepsolid gives you a 30-day window to avail of a refund after purchasing VPN Unlimited. After that, you can no longer get your money back if you’re unsatisfied with the service.

Deals, Coupon Code & Free Trial

What’s great about VPN Unlimited is that it offers a free trial. You can test it out for a week to determine if it’s the right VPN for you. Few other services allow for this, which makes it shine.

My team is aware that it’s difficult to get a good bargain nowadays.

Sad to say, we weren’t able to find VPN Unlimited discount coupons. With that said, it should be noted that the pricing options of the service are already great. This is especially true when compared to competing services that are significantly more expensive.

Is VPN Unlimited worth it?

Yes. VPN Unlimited is by far one of the best VPN services out there. By buying it, you shall be getting excellent security, excellent connection speeds, and the ability to work around almost every geoblock put in place. Furthermore, it’ll be possible to bypass China’s Great Firewall.

Don’t get me wrong, VPN Unlimited does have its disadvantages. Its apps need refinement, and its server network has to get larger. Moreover, the service needs to be able to gain access to more foreign Netflix libraries.

{We also compared it to other well-known VPNs. Please check our other articles where we compare VPN Unlimited side-by-side versus other products: SurfsharkExpressVPNNordVPNVPN UnlimitedVyprVPNPIA (Private Internet Access)CyberGhostTunnelBearIPVanish, and Avast VPN.}

For its price, nothing comes close to VPN Unlimited. Even Private Internet Access, which is the most well-known value option, is beaten by it. Thus, the service is a no-brainer for anyone aiming to spend little and get the most value for their money.
